Projects

In line with PMCWA’s commitment to prevocational training and education, the WA JMO Committee’s has identified a number of projects to progress in 2007.

Welfare Study

The welfare of Junior Medical Officers was one of the priority issues identified at the recent National JMO Forum held in October 2006.  The WA JMO Forum initiated a JMO Welfare Study at the end of 2006.

The JMO Welfare Study was designed to investigate various aspects of intern life in WA.  Some of the issues that were relevant to the JMO Welfare Study were the preparedness to practice, health and wellbeing, education and training, supervision, job satisfaction, work related stress and burnout.

A questionnaire which consisted of two sections was sent to all (140), WA interns in 2006 during their last week of practice.

  • Section 1 consisted of a series of structured questions with either fixed options or a 5 point graded scale.
  • Section 2 utilised three self-administered psychological scales, which were then scored by the research team.

The findings of the study are yet to be finalised, however preliminary data has identified issues for the JMO Forum to take steps to address.
