Community Placements

Community Medicine Opportunities

Opportunities are available to gain valuable community medicine experience through the following programs:

All training posts in the programs are accredited by the PMCWA to ensure junior doctors are provided with quality education and supervision to develop their clinical skills, communication skills and medical professionalism in community settings as outlined in the Australian Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors. Junior doctors at PGY 2 and above with unconditional registration and employed by WA state government hospitals are eligible to apply for this Program.

Participants undertaking either of these programs will rotate out of their hospital into a placement in a primary care setting for one or more hospital rotations. At the end of the placement term they rotate back to their Tertiary hospital.

When undertaking a primary care placement, participants remain employed by their tertiary hospital and continue to be paid by the hospital, accrue leave entitlements, etc. Medical indemnity also continues to be met by their hospital. Accommodation and assistance with travel are provided for rural rotations. Participation in either program counts towards hospital time should a participant decide to apply for inclusion in the GP Training Program.
