Accreditation Surveyors

Allocation of Surveyors

The Postgraduate Medical Council will normally allocate at least two surveyors to each accreditation survey. One of these will be asked to lead the team. Survey teams must include at least one clinician. On occasion several teams will be allocated to a survey, depending on the number of units at the health service to be accredited.

Surveyors who are employed by the hospital / health service being accredited or who otherwise have a conflict-of-interest will not be appointed to the accreditation team.

The Postgraduate Medical Council endeavours to ensure that surveys are scheduled at times suitable to both the health service and the survey team members.

If you are interested in being a surveyor

Surveyors may be recruited in the following ways:

  • Nomination by a current accreditation surveyor.
  • Self-nomination by contacting the Postgraduate Medical Council.
  • Invitation of the Postgraduate Medical Council.

In order to familiarise new surveyors to the accreditation process, they are asked to participate in at least two surveys as an observer prior to being a member of a survey team.
