Background
Many of the roles and responsibilities of the Postgraduate Medical Council were previously undertaken by the Prevocational Training and Accreditation Committee (PTAC). PTAC was dissolved on 30 June 2003 by the Medical Board of Western Australia, of which it was a sub-committee.
PTAC was established in 1997 in response to a recommendation from the Medical Training and Review Panel (MTRP) that "there should be a structure in each of the States or Territories to support Hospital Medical Officers training".
PTAC was responsible to promote and supervise the training of pre-vocational Hospital Medical Officers within the Western Australian public and private hospital system; this was done through the accreditation of hospitals and other institutions where such training took place. We welcome your feedback on this site and your comments on how it can be improved.
